Capstone Projects

Nursing Capstone Project Support for BSN, MSN, and DNP Students

A capstone project is the culminating academic requirement of a nursing degree program. Unlike a course-level essay or care plan, it requires you to identify a clinical problem, formulate a PICOT question, synthesize the evidence, design an intervention or practice-change proposal, and demonstrate how it would improve patient outcomes. It is assessed as a complete project, not a single assignment.

ScribeLabWriter supports nursing capstone projects at every level: BSN capstones, MSN theses and capstone projects, and DNP scholarly projects. Our nursing capstone specialist, Sara Christina (MSc Clinical, Research RN, BSc Nursing Science), leads this service with clinical research experience across evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and nursing education.

We help you at whatever stage you are in. If you are still selecting a topic, we help you identify a viable clinical question. If your proposal is approved and you are stuck on the evidence synthesis, we build the literature review. If the project is written and you need formatting, APA compliance, and revision support, we handle that too.

For a detailed walkthrough of the capstone literature review process, see our published anchor article: How to Write a Nursing Literature Review for Your Dissertation, Capstone, or DNP Project.

Our Process

Step 1: Tell Us Where You Are

Submit your capstone details through our enquiry form. Tell us your program level (BSN, MSN, DNP), whether you have a topic, whether your proposal is approved, which sections you need help with, and your deadline.

Step 2: Topic and PICOT Development (If Needed)

If you have not selected a topic or formulated your PICOT question, we work with you to identify a clinically relevant, researchable question. We use the PICOT framework for intervention questions and PICOT-D for DNP practice-change projects. Our published PICOT question guide with 15 clinical examples is the foundation for this stage.

Step 3: Evidence Synthesis

We search CINAHL, PubMed, and Cochrane for the highest-quality evidence relevant to your PICOT question. Evidence is appraised using CASP or JBI critical appraisal checklists and organized into evidence tables with levels of evidence ratings. The synthesis is written as a narrative review connecting the evidence to your clinical question and proposed intervention.

Step 4: Project Development and Write-Up

We develop the remaining sections of your capstone: the implementation plan (using your program's required framework), the evaluation plan, budget considerations if applicable, and the discussion of implications for practice. The entire project is formatted to your program's specifications in APA 7th edition.

Step 5: Revision and Submission

We incorporate your faculty advisor's feedback at every stage. Unlimited revisions until your capstone is approved.

How Capstone Projects Differ From Nursing Coursework

Capstone projects are graduate-level culminating projects that span an entire term or year. They require topic approval, a proposal, evidence synthesis, and a project write-up that demonstrates practice-level impact.

Nursing coursework (essays, care plans, reflective papers, case studies) are individual assignments within a course that do not require a formal proposal or committee approval. If you need help with nursing coursework, see our Nursing Writing service.

If your capstone requires a journal-grade systematic review with PRISMA 2020 compliance and dual-reviewer screening, see our Systematic Review service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a BSN capstone and a DNP scholarly project?

A BSN capstone is typically a shorter evidence-based practice project or community health assessment demonstrating foundational EBP competency. A DNP scholarly project is a comprehensive practice-change initiative with a PICOT-D question, formal evidence synthesis, an implementation framework, a QI methodology, and outcome evaluation. The depth, length, and committee expectations are significantly different.

Do I need IRB approval for my capstone?

This depends on your program and whether your project involves primary data collection from human subjects. Quality improvement projects that do not involve research with human subjects often do not require full IRB approval but may need an IRB determination letter. We help you navigate this with your program's guidelines.

Can you help if I already have my proposal approved?

Yes. Many students come to us after their proposal is approved and they are stuck on the evidence synthesis or the implementation plan. We pick up wherever you are and support the remaining sections.

Which EBP or QI frameworks do you use?

We use the framework your program requires. Common frameworks include the Iowa Model (2017), Johns Hopkins PET Model, ACE Star Model (Stevens, 2004), Stetler Model, and PARIHS. For QI capstones, we use PDSA cycles, Lean, or Six Sigma as appropriate. If your program specifies a different framework, send us the guidelines and we will follow them.

How long does capstone support take?

BSN capstone support typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. MSN capstone support takes 3 to 6 weeks. DNP scholarly project support can take 4 to 10 weeks depending on the scope. Express timelines are available for approaching deadlines.
